Service · WordPress & CMS across Hertfordshire

A CMS your team will actually use.

WordPress and headless CMS development for Hertfordshire businesses. A good CMS is the difference between a site that stays fresh and one that goes stale the week after launch, so we build admin experiences non-technical staff can run themselves.

Platforms we work with

Most of our CMS work is WordPress, and for good reason: it is the tool the widest range of marketing teams already know, and done properly it is fast, secure and pleasant to edit. But it is not the only right answer, so we build across the board.

  • WordPress, the default for marketing teams, with Advanced Custom Fields or block-based editing.
  • Sanity and Strapi, for headless builds powering several channels at once.
  • Payload CMS, for self-hosted headless with a genuinely good admin UI.
  • Contentful and Storyblok, for larger content operations.
  • Custom builds, bespoke Node and TypeScript CMS layers when nothing off the shelf fits.

What a good CMS looks like

The test of a CMS is not the feature list, it is whether the person who needs to change a phone number can do it in two minutes without emailing us. That is the bar we build to.

  • Editors can add a page and have it live in under two minutes.
  • SEO fields (title, description, canonical, social image) are built in and impossible to miss.
  • Images are auto-optimised, resized and lazy-loaded, so editors never have to think about it.
  • Roles and permissions stop accidental damage before it happens.
  • Everything is versioned, so "I deleted the homepage" is a shrug, not a crisis.

One CMS, two languages: the Footcore build

Footcore is a Watford footcare manufacturer that sells into both the UK and Sweden, so its site had to be fully bilingual, every page, every product and every menu available in English and Swedish. The trap with a project like that is a CMS the brand team cannot maintain without a translator and a developer in the room. We built the opposite: a single, lightweight CMS where the team ships new products in both languages themselves, with clear foot-condition navigation mirrored across both. It is a good illustration of what we mean by a CMS your team will use, the technical complexity sits with us, and the day-to-day control sits with them.

A bespoke CMS for ProFoot

ProFoot is a UK footcare brand whose therapeutic insoles and supports sell through retail partners rather than a checkout, which makes its website an unusual shape: a product catalogue that has to be organised around foot complaints, heel, arch, ball-of-foot, rather than SKU codes, plus a stockist finder pointing buyers at where to actually purchase. Off-the-shelf systems model products as items in categories and fight you on everything else, so we built ProFoot a bespoke CMS instead. Their team manages the catalogue, the per-complaint pages and the stockist list themselves, and the structured data that tells Google exactly what each product is and who it is for is generated automatically rather than typed in by hand. It is the "custom builds" line from the platform list above, in practice: when the business model does not fit the tool, we build the tool to fit the business.

Who this is for

Hertfordshire marketing managers, operations leads and business owners who want to stop emailing an agency every time a price or a phone number changes. If your current site needs a developer to update a comma, you are paying too much and moving too slowly. We fix that.

WordPress and CMS demand across the county

WordPress remains the most-searched CMS platform among Hertfordshire businesses, and we field CMS work from right across the county, from Watford and St Albans through to Bishop's Stortford, where "WordPress agency in Bishop's Stortford" is a search we see with no strong local answer. Alongside the WordPress demand there is a steady long tail of headless-CMS enquiries from teams who have outgrown a single website and now need their content in an app or a partner system too. We serve both from the same studio. Wherever you are, we tie the build back to a local landing page so you rank when someone searches with a town attached, pick yours from the list below.

Integrations we commonly add

  • Mailchimp, Brevo, ActiveCampaign, Klaviyo for email marketing.
  • HubSpot, Pipedrive, Salesforce for CRM.
  • Stripe, GoCardless, Opayo for payments.
  • Calendly, Cal.com, SavvyCal for bookings.
  • Zapier, Make, n8n for everything else.

Pricing

CMS builds are fixed-price after a free 30-minute discovery call. As a guide, a WordPress or headless CMS site starts from around £3,500 for a Growth build with a blog and lead forms, and rises with custom fields, integrations and bespoke admin work. A straight migration off an existing platform is scoped on its own. If you would rather we host, maintain and keep the CMS updated for you, the All-In Plan covers that on a monthly fee.

WordPress done properly, not left to rot

Most of the "my website is broken" calls we get are WordPress sites that were built once and then neglected: forty plugins nobody remembers installing, a theme three major versions out of date, and a login page the whole internet can try to guess. WordPress gets a bad reputation for this, but the platform is not the problem, the neglect is. Built properly, WordPress is lean, fast and secure: only the plugins you actually need, a well-chosen or custom theme, images optimised on upload, and updates applied on a schedule instead of ignored until something breaks. We build it that way, and if you already have a WordPress site that has drifted, our first job is usually to get it back under control rather than start again.

When to go headless

Headless just means splitting the editing experience from the thing visitors see: your content lives in a modern editor like Sanity, Strapi or Payload, and a fast front end pulls it in. It is worth it when you need the same content in more than one place, a website and a mobile app, or a website and a partner's system, or when performance and security matter enough that you want the public site to be static files with no database to attack. It is overkill for a straightforward brochure site, where WordPress or a static Astro build is simpler and cheaper to run. We will tell you honestly which side of that line you are on, because a headless build you did not need is just complexity you now have to maintain.

Moving off Wix, Squarespace or an old build

A lot of our CMS work starts as a rescue from a platform a business has outgrown: a Wix or Squarespace site that cannot do what they now need, or an ageing WordPress build nobody wants to touch. The migration is where the risk sits, not the build. We map every existing URL to its new home so your rankings survive, keep your structured data intact, and move content and images across cleanly rather than making you re-enter everything by hand. Done right, a migration is invisible to your customers and to Google; done carelessly, it wipes out years of SEO in an afternoon, which is exactly why we treat it as the core of the project.

Training and handover

A CMS your team cannot use is worse than no CMS at all, so every build ends with a proper handover: a recorded walkthrough for the common jobs, a short written handbook, and a live training session where your team drives and we answer the questions. For a larger team we will run that as a workshop at your office anywhere in Hertfordshire. After that, the day-to-day is genuinely yours, and if you would still rather we handled updates and hosting, the care plans and the All-In Plan are there for exactly that.

SEO built into the editor

A CMS should make good SEO the default, not an afterthought someone has to remember. So every build we ship has the title, meta description, canonical and social-image fields built into the editing screen, structured data generated automatically, and clean URLs and redirects handled for you. Your editors do not need to understand schema markup or Core Web Vitals; the CMS takes care of the technical side so they can get on with writing.

Frequently asked questions

What is a CMS?

A CMS (content management system) is the admin panel behind your website that lets non-technical staff add, edit and publish pages, posts, products and images without touching code. WordPress is the best-known example, but there are many alternatives, and the right one depends on how your team works.

WordPress or headless, which is better for us?

Neither is universally better. WordPress is ideal when editors want a visual, page-builder-style experience and a huge plugin ecosystem. Headless (Sanity, Strapi, Payload, Contentful, Storyblok) is better when you need the same content across a website, an app and third-party systems, or when performance and security are the priority. We help you pick, based on your team and your roadmap, not on habit.

Can you move us off Wix, Squarespace or an old WordPress build?

Yes. We regularly migrate Hertfordshire businesses off Wix, Squarespace, ageing WordPress and proprietary systems into modern, maintainable platforms, with full content, SEO redirects and image preservation so you keep your rankings.

Will our editors need training?

We include a recorded walkthrough, a written handbook and one live training session as standard. For larger teams we can run a workshop at your office anywhere in Hertfordshire.

Can you build a fully custom CMS?

Yes, when off-the-shelf genuinely does not fit. We have built bespoke admin panels for directory sites, membership platforms, booking systems and multi-tenant marketplaces, always with a first-class editing experience rather than a developer-only back end.
